Sharing your convention information is a key part of playing bridge on BBO. Here's how you can set up and manage your convention cards:
- Log in to BBO.
- Go to the 'Account' Tab: This is usually found on the right-hand side of the main BBO screen or in a similar prominent location.
- Select 'Convention Cards': Within the 'Account' section, you'll find an option for 'Convention Cards'. Click on this.
Inside the Convention Card Manager, you have several options:
-
Use a Stock Card:
- BBO provides "Stock Cards" (like ACBL SAYC, Simple Modern Acol, etc.) which are pre-filled templates.
- You can select a stock card that closely matches your system.
- To use it with a specific partner, you'll typically need to select the card, then enter your partner's BBO username in a designated field (often labeled "Partner" or "Use with partner").
- You can then edit this stock card to reflect your specific agreements with that partner and save it. This creates a "Personal Card" for that partnership.
-
Create a New Convention Card:
- There's usually an option like "New ACBL Convention Card" (or a similar blank template).
- Click this to start filling out a card from scratch.
- Enter your partner's BBO username and a title for the card.
- Fill in all the details of your system.
- Crucially, click "Save Changes" when you're done.
-
Manage Your Personal Cards:
- Any cards you create or modify and save with a partner's username will appear in your "Personal Cards" list.
- You can View, Edit, or Delete these personal cards.
- It's good practice to have a specific card for each regular partner.
How it appears on your profile/at the table:
- Once you have a convention card saved and associated with a partner's username, BBO will generally make this card available when you play with that partner.
- Opponents (and your partner) can usually view your partnership's active convention card by clicking on your names or an icon at the table (often the three-line "hamburger" menu, or specific "NS CC" / "EW CC" buttons).
- Some players also add a brief summary of their main system in the "Other info" section of their main BBO profile (under
Account>Profile), but the full convention card is the detailed source.
Key Tips:
- Partner's Username: Always ensure you've correctly entered your partner's BBO username when setting up a card for that partnership. This is how BBO links the card to your games together.
- Save Changes: Don't forget to save any edits you make.
- One Card per Partnership: It's best if one person in a regular partnership creates and maintains the card, ensuring both partners have the same version associated with their pairing.
- Before Tournaments: Some tournaments allow you to check if your convention card is correctly loaded during registration.
By managing your convention cards in the 'Account' section, you ensure your system is transparent to others, which is essential for fair and enjoyable play.
